The Painted Lady

The Painted Lady

Our Office - 103 S Franklin St., Shawano

Built in 1904, this iconic Queen Anne–style home—historically known as the August Anderson House—stands as one of the most architecturally significant residences in Shawano.

Designed and constructed by Chris C. Fritz, one of Shawano’s most influential early builders, this was the first residence in the city attributed to his work and is widely regarded as the finest representation of his Queen Anne designs. Fritz went on to design or construct approximately fourteen buildings throughout Shawano, with his Queen Anne residences being the most notable.

The home features hallmark Queen Anne elements, including a large round corner tower, dentilled eaves, ornamental scroll-cut brackets, a pedimented gable with a Palladian window, oval tower windows with keystone detailing, and decorative belt courses and lintels—details that reflect craftsmanship rarely seen today.

Originally built for August Anderson, a prominent lumberman and industrial leader, the home reflects Shawano’s early economic growth. Anderson served as Vice President of the Wolf River Paper and Fiber Company, became the primary stockholder of Shawano’s sulphite mill in 1899, and later invested in the Schweers Hardware Company.

Today, lovingly known as The Painted Lady, this historic home continues its legacy—now serving as the heart of Evermore Realty, where timeless architecture meets modern real estate expertise.
